Our client, a leader in the lighting industry, is seeking a dynamic Head of Product to join their team in Cape Town. They have a national presence and extend their influence into Africa through enduring relationships with esteemed business partners.

Reporting to the Marketing Director, the Head of Product/Product Executive is responsible for managing the entire life cycle of a product, from ideation to launch and beyond.  Armed with a business degree and 5 years’ experience in buying and product management. Ideally you will have experience dealing with Asian suppliers specifically in the lighting, electrical and hardware industry for sale to the wholesale/retail environments.

Communication skills:  articulate the product vision, strategy and roadmap as well as solicit feedback and resolve conflicts

Technical expertise:  collaborate with the suppliers to define the product requirements, prioritise the features and troubleshoot the issues

Strategic thinking:  plan and execute the product roadmap, measure the outcomes, and adapt to changing situations

Leadership skills:  be able to manage expectations, handle conflicts and make decisions

Emotional intelligence:  be able to cope with stress, uncertainty and failure

Analytical skills:  exceptional analytical competence using Excel and data tools

Job description:

  • Gain a deep understanding of customer experience, identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that grow market share, improve customer experience and drive growth
  • Create buy-in for the product vision both internally and with key external partners
  • Develop product pricing and positioning strategies
  • Follow and interpret relevant market trends
  • Drive product launches including working with sales, procurement and regulatory teams
  • Evaluate promotional plans to ensure that they are consistent with product line strategy and that the message is effectively conveyed
  • Act as a product evangelist to build awareness and understanding
  • Represent the company by visiting customers to solicit feedback on company products
  • Evaluate suppliers
  • Negotiate prices
  • Monitor stock levels and approving product forecast and purchases in conjunction with the Inventory Planner
